I think the humor is different because the demographic of people who are watching the sitdotcom is way different - the average American sitcom (Friends, Will and Grace, Just Shoot Me, etc. etc.) are very similar. The budget is different so the show can afford to be funnier at a possible financial risk. I totally agree, and I see that, as well.
